Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov: Will This Be Fury's Final Fight? (2026)

Bold claim: Tyson Fury hints he might retire again after one more comeback fight before potentially stepping away for good. With his showdown against Arslanbek Makhmudov imminent, the 37-year-old former two-time unified heavyweight champion returns to the ring on April 11 in Tottenham, with the fight airing live on Netflix.

This will be Fury’s first bout since back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, the Ukrainian defeating him for a second time in December 2024. That loss triggered Fury’s fifth retirement, though he’s now back in action as he weighs his long-term future.

Ahead of the Tottenham bout, Fury sizes up Makhmudov as a tune-up against the possibility of a third clash with Usyk. Yet in comments to Sky Sports, he admitted he could decline future opportunities and retire again after this fight.

“I can only focus on who I’m fighting, and that’s Arslanbek Makhmudov,” Fury explained. “And that’s what I’ve got to do. I’ve got to get him out of the way, beat him and then who knows? That might be the end. I might retire again.”

If Fury goes through with retirement after defeating Makhmudov, he would walk away from what could be the biggest payday of his career. A massive, multi-million-pound collision with Anthony Joshua had been planned for September, marking a long-awaited all-British heavyweight showdown. Those plans were scuppered when Joshua was involved in a serious car crash in Nigeria last December, a tragedy that also claimed the lives of two of his friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Joshua himself escaped with only minor injuries, but the accident paused the heavyweight dream.

Fury has said Joshua’s brush with death influenced his decision to return to boxing. Reflecting on life’s fragility, Fury framed his comeback in personal terms: “Tomorrow is not promised to anybody. The Bible says tomorrow is not a gift. Tomorrow ain’t promised. Tomorrow is a mystery. So we have to live for today. And me living for that day, I made my mind up there and then that I’m going to come back to boxing. Because it’s something that I love and I’m passionate about. And there is no tomorrow to put it off to. So that’s why I’m back today for this big fight.” And with that mindset, Fury steps into the ring in April, ready to give his all, regardless of what the future holds.
