Supercars vs MotoGP: A Battle for the Spotlight in Adelaide!
In a surprising turn of events, the MotoGP deal has taken center stage, leaving Supercars to play the supporting act. But here's the twist: Supercars isn't backing down without a fight!
While MotoGP's arrival in Adelaide might steal some thunder, Supercars remains confident in its status as the main attraction. With a solid fan base and a packed schedule, including the thrilling Bathurst and Gold Coast races, Supercars believes it has the momentum to stay on top.
"Supercars is a powerhouse in Australia," says Warburton. "We've got the momentum, and our plans for growth are solid. There's no doubt we'll continue to be the main event."
But here's where it gets controversial... The South Australian Government's decision to bring MotoGP to Adelaide has raised some eyebrows. With the Grand Final already locked in until 2034, Supercars feels secure in its position. However, the MotoGP race, promoted by the same board, could potentially overshadow the Grand Final.
Last year's Grand Final attracted an impressive 285,700 fans over four days, with a record-breaking 102,200 on the final day. Compare that to the 2025 Phillip Island MotoGP race, which drew an estimated 91,245 over three days. The numbers speak for themselves, but will the city location of Adelaide boost MotoGP's attendance?
Warburton suggests a collaborative approach, promoting both events together. "It's about reaching different audiences," he explains. "Adelaide has proven its ability to host major events, and we want to ensure our Grand Final remains the crown jewel."
And this is the part most people miss... MotoGP's move to Adelaide could actually benefit Supercars! With the potential to return to Phillip Island, Supercars might just have found a way to have its cake and eat it too. The Victorian venue, with its stunning seaside location, could be back on the cards if the government provides the necessary support.
"We're open to conversations about Phillip Island," Warburton adds. "It's all about finding the right time and the right fit in our calendar."
So, who do you think will reign supreme in Adelaide? Will Supercars maintain its dominance, or will MotoGP steal the show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! It's time to spark some friendly debate and discuss the future of these thrilling races!
