Poland's tourism sector is experiencing a remarkable surge, with the country witnessing the European Union's second-fastest growth in tourism in 2025, right behind Malta. This impressive growth is a testament to the Polish government's efforts to boost the role of tourism in the economy. However, despite this success, Poland still lags behind other destinations in absolute terms. The country had an estimated total of 104.5 million nights spent in tourist accommodation in 2025, significantly lower than leaders Spain, Italy, and France. Poland also trails behind smaller countries like Greece, the Netherlands, and Austria. The low proportion of international visitors, with only 19.2% of its tourist accommodation nights accounted for by foreign guests, is a notable area of improvement. Despite these challenges, Poland's combination of historic cities, natural landscapes, and a growing culinary scene positions it well to attract more tourists. The current government aims to increase the tourism sector's contribution to GDP from 4% to 9% by 2030, and Kraków, Poland's most popular tourist destination, has been consistently recognized as one of the best city break locations in Europe. With record visitor numbers at major tourist destinations like the UNESCO-listed Wieliczka Salt Mine and the former Nazi-German death camp of Auschwitz, Poland is poised to further boost its tourism sector and contribute more significantly to its booming economy.
